• PMEGP is a merger of two schemes, namely, Prime Minister’s Rojgar Yojna and Rural Employment Generation Programme
  • The scheme is implemented by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) functioning as the nodal agency at the national level. At the state level, the scheme is implemented through State KVIC Directorates, State Khadi and Village Industries Boards (KVIBs), District Industries Centres (DICs) and banks. In such cases KVIC routes government subsidy through designated banks for eventual disbursal to the beneficiaries / entrepreneurs directly into their bank accounts
  • Maximum project cost Rs 10 lakh in the service sector and Rs 25 lakh in the manufacturing sector is this limit
  • Any industry including coir based projects (excluding those mentioned in the negative list) can take advantage of this scheme with a 2 week training period
  • Under the scheme, women entrepreneurs are covered under Special Category and are entitled to 25% and 35% subsidies for the project set up in urban and rural areas respectively. For women beneficiaries, own contribution is only 5% of the project cost while for general category it is 10%
